Starring: Tom Hanks
Larry Crowne
Larry Crowne is played by Tom Hanks and it also stars Julia Roberts, and if you have followed Hollywood movies for the last couple of decades you surely have heard of both of these great actors. Tom Hanks actually produced this movie and stars in it. He is one of the great actors of our time in how he can play an every man and no matter who he plays you believe this is really who he is. He takes you into his world as he has in Castaway and Forest Gump and so many memorable films. Now I am not saying he will win the best actor award for this as he did for Forest Gump, but he certainly puts on a great performance.
Larry Crowne is a Navy man of 20 years who becomes a retail salesman at a walmart type store and employee of the month 8 months in a row as this movie starts. Not a real exciting story yet Tom Hanks is this guy Larry Crowne. He isn’t so much playing him as he is him. Then he gets fired because he doesn’t have a college degree. This movie is where the world economy is right now and resembles the home foreclosure problems and the unemployment problems that America is facing. Julia Roberts plays his college teacher who has her own problems but I can’t say too much because it could ruin the plot. Bottom line is if you have been to college or worked in a walmart or similar store this movie rings true. Especially the portrail of a junior college where Larrys life starts over again. We all need fresh starts in life and this movie is a refreshing view into life after disappointments and trying to start over. I give Larry Crowne an 8 out of 10.
